Finished at last, with a dark layer just on the buses to bring them to the front of the picture space.



San Giovanni dei Fiorentini, Roma.
Eight stage reduction linocut, 30 x 24cm.

The view is from the Corso Vittoria Emmanuele II in Rome, across the Via Paola, to the front of the San Giovanni dei Fiorentini church. I chose this view because I wanted to make a picture of Rome that avoided the obvious subject matter such as the Colosseum, the Vatican and so on. This particular view summed up what I liked about Rome: the clutter of a modern city crammed up next to a Renaissance masterpiece.

Dark brown on the building on the left; dark grey on the buses.



Nearly finished.

Another darker gradient; slowly building up the full range of tones.

Another, darker, gradient across the image from brown at the left to grey at the right. The orange on the previous layer looks much less gaudy now.

A vertical gradient, for a change: orange-brown on the left blending to darker grey on the right.

A gradient from blue at the top down to grey at the bottom.



Already, a lot of the details are appearing.

Here we go again.



Two distinct areas printed. Some pale blue in the sky, and some bright red in the foreground (it's a bus). Though the red is a relatively dark colour to be on the first layer, red is very transparent and difficult to print over other colours. So this time, I'm printing it first. Hope this works...

Clarissa brought a big pile of films from the library for us to watch. As we watched them, we noticed how many rabbits were wearing shades to make them look cool.

First we watched "Reservoir Rabbits": A film by Quentin Rabbitino. I didn't like this one: there was a nasty bit when a poor rabbit got his ear cut off.



Then we watched "The Blues Bunnies". This was much more fun, and we sang along to all the songs.



Finally we watched Audrey Hepbunny in "Breakfast at Tiffbunny's". I was a bit disappointed that they didn't have carrots for breakfast, but it was quite nice all the same.
