Eden Brook

A walk through the meadows, on the banks of Eden Brook. It's open access land here, thanks to the generosity of the farmer, but I don't think I've been here in over fifteen years. I remember the drawing that I did then; if I can find it, I will add it to this post.

The Eden runs north-east from here, through Edenbridge, and then eventually joins up with the Thames.

First day of Spring

25 February 2022

It felt like the first day of Spring today. There was warmth in the sunshine, and the first daffodils were in bloom.

Tunnel of trees

23 February 2022

The weather has calmed down, but it was cold, even in the sunshine. Here by the fence, in the tunnel of trees at the edge of the park, it was at least a little warmer. I drew this quickly with a Uni-Ball brush pen, and then added some watercolour paint in desaturated colours.

Ink and watercolour, 24 x 12 cm.

After the storms

Eunice and Franklin kept us indoors for several days, so it was a relief to see some sunshine today, and get back to the park. There didn't seem to be much damage to the trees, fortunately, and some hellebores had survived the weather to come into bloom.

Lighter lives

20 February 2022

I did some more work on the still live paintings that I started last week, trying add some more colour and light. They are more interesting now, but might still need more work.

Between the storms

17 February 2022

Starting a new sketchbook. There's another storm due tomorrow, but plenty of clear sunshine today. There will be daffodils buds here in a few days, if the wind doesn't get them.

The ends of the fence

16 February 2022

The wind's picking up. A storm is coming. Quick sketches of the fence at the entrance to the allotments.

Also the end of a sketchbook: the last drawings in the pocketsize Seawhite sketchbook that I started in November. It's always a sense of achievement when you complete a sketchbook.

Dark lives

13 February 2022

These still lives came out a bit dark. I will do some more work on them, to bring in some light.
